Black and white kitty birthday party

Three Years Old. It’s more than that because her birthday has been over a week past. Even though it seems like it was only last week, her second birthday was just a few months ago… It’s a good thing I keep reminding myself that I have a three. Year. Old! This year, we chose to celebrate our birthday with a Kitty Cat Black and White Themed Party. Please keep it simple, and have fun!

Since her second birthday, I have gone from saying, “I won’t plan anything big,” to “I really want to plan a unicorn party, but it will be low-key,” to, “Since this is going to be an awesome theme, why wouldn’t I go all out?”

Sophie’s Second Birthday Unicorn Party was a success, and I did not hold back. It was a lot of fun, and I realized how much I enjoy planning parties. I love imagining the theme and watching it come to fruition. The look on the faces of the guests honored when they see the surprise setup is priceless.

I watched Sophie’s love of kitty cats grow throughout the year and knew it would be the perfect theme for her birthday.

Yes, it was a bit over the top, but everyone had a great time, and that’s what counts to me!

Our overall look was achieved by sticking to the theme and keeping it very simple. Many people said I did a great job, but it was one of the easiest parties I’ve ever planned. Tiny Prints gave me the chance to tweak one of their black-and-white invitations to make it my own. The polka-dot invitation liners added some pattern to the theme of black and white, and we could use that throughout the party.

The backdrop is made from black poster board, which I cut out and then hot glued onto twine. I made the first shape and then copied it to make more copies. This was a very time-consuming task for the party but well worth it. It brought the table together.

Let’s begin with the cake! When I asked my mom to make a kitty-cat cake, she accepted the challenge. (Actually, I don’t think it was a big challenge for her). The cake had three layers with alternate vanilla and chocolate. It was not only adorable but also delicious. My friend made the cookie pops that accompanied the cake.

You might be surprised to learn that the green foam boards used for flower arrangements are actually black rectangular boxes. These were purchased at my local dollar store. I spray-painted them black and hot glued the polka-dot ribbon on.

You didn’t forget these amazing treats in the front row, did you? Popcorn and marshmallows are my two favorite party snacks. Marsh & Mallow has created some delicious custom marshmallows for my Summer Soiree. Carly, the founder of Marsh and Mallow, was given free rein to design something that would fit our theme. The black and white mallows were amazing. The white sprinkles on the top of the mallows are complemented perfectly with polka dot highlights.

Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks, and my kids also love it! It is a great party snack for both kids and adults. This mix contains white chocolate and Oreos and is designed to match. It may sound odd, but give it a try. Popcorn Bar is a great way to create any magic creation that matches your party theme.

To tie the table together, I made cat-faced plates. These plates were easy to make. I used one pipe cleaner per side of the whiskers and black construction paper for the ears. Fold the whiskers into thirds, then snip them. Attach the ears and whiskers with a hot glue gun to the backside of the plate.

I picked up my partyware from Heather and Gem, a local party store. The table was topped off with the ever-popular party noisemakers from Fiestas By Ili. Continue reading to find out a discount code for this party store!

These Kitty Cat Ears were my last DIY project for the Black and White themed Birthday Party. They were a hit with the kids (well, most of them). In my blog post “How to Make Kitty Cat Ears,” I show you step-by-step how I made them. This was a great idea and a hit at the party.
