These Valentine’s Day Heart Crayons can be made in no time at all. There are a lot of broken crayons lying around. The more broken crayons, the better!!
It’s a fun project for kids to do together. The hardest part is removing the paper from the crayons.
PRO SUGGESTION: Use an ultra-sharp knife to cut the paper. Just be careful!
How can I remove the paper easily from the crayon? Several readers have suggested other methods.
One person said that soaking them in water for several minutes would make them peel off. As I mentioned, I used a very sharp knife to cut a line through the crayon. It came off easily (be careful, don’t have any knife accidents).
How to make DIY heart-shaped crayons
Materials Required:
- Here is where I bought mine
- Broken crayons
- Instructions:
- STEP 1: Preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
- STEP 2: Peel off the paper from all the crayons and then break them into small pieces.
- STEP 3: Insert the crayons into the molds. Insert the crayon pieces in each heart mold. Mix the colors, adding some light stains to some dark ones. It helps to define the colors and breaks them up. I put a small piece of white in each mold. It’s not difficult to mess it up.
- STEP 4: Place the mold on a cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes.
- STEP 5: Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely. The crayons will pop out of the molds.
Ingredients
-
- ? Silicon heart mold

Instructions
-
-
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
- Break the crayons into small pieces by peeling off the paper from all the crayons.
- Place pieces of different colors in the molds. (I include both light and dark colors). I always try to include a little bit of white in every heart mold. Some people prefer to sort the crayons by color. It’s up to you…have some fun!
- Place the cookie sheet on top of the pan and bake for 12 minutes. Note: All ovens cook differently. Watch for the crayons melting completely. Remove them before the colors become too mushy. !
