Liam’s room renovation yesterday got you thinking about how to remodel your child’s bedroom. We don’t blame you. Jillian made a lot of cute design decisions. Today, I’m going to share a few. These DIYs are super simple and affordable. They can be used to customize a room in your house. It’s so easy to buy items that are already made. But it’s SO satisfying to make something yourself. This uber-cool shelf is made from a skateboard.

Supplies:1. Skateboard

2. Jute rope

3. Nautical-looking hooks

4. Decorative succulent planters

5. Succulents

How-to:

You’ll first need to drill larger holes in your skateboard deck. It would help if you only drilled holes large enough for your rope to fit through.

You’ll now need to decide where to place the shelf and how long to make the rope. The frame is 17″ from the hook to the board.

Step one: After you have marked the location of your hooks, it is time to drill them and secure them in the wall. Make sure you use a level to ensure that the pins are evenly spaced over your holes.

Step two: Add the rope once everything is secure. Insert string into the hole nearest the wall and tie a tight knot. Make sure that the knot is fast and secure. Loop rope around hook twice. Repetition of this step is required on the opposite side. Place the string through the front hole, and then tie a knot. Make sure that you keep your board level. Once the final knot is in place, cut off all access ropes.

Step three: Secure your board with screws. One screw was placed in the middle of the board. The screw sticks need to stick out about 1/4 inch from the wall. Then, we put two screws evenly spaced on the bottom panel. These screws are about half an inch long.
