Liams nautical surf themed bedroom

I am so excited to reveal Liam’s room after sharing the Inspiration yesterday and little sneak peeks on Instagram. Let’s pretend we all sit on the sweet yellow bed to soak in all of it because that is exactly what I did when this project was completed. As I looked around (a little like now), my eyes filled with tears. I realized that while we purchased some new items, we also chose artisanal items that told a tale. For a 3-1/2-year-old, the world revolves around storytelling. I am so happy with the way it turned out and hope that it inspires you to do your transformation.
I’m going to jump right into a few DIY elements I created for his room to give it a handcrafted feeling. I started by making the handwoven Mexican star weaving wall hanging. As I was getting lost in Pinterest, I came across Simple Grove. Elise Vaughn, a DIY contributor, created something similar. I knew I had to recreate it. The result was a 6-hour weaving session and a visit to Michaels. This is the first time I have created something like this. It’s easy to use and, dare I say it, addictive. It’s pretty awesome.
We 100lc girls are *a little* obsessed with dyeing indigo. Kristina was so excited when I told her I wanted to dye Liam’s curtain with indigo; she looked for every excuse to dip-dye the curtains. Why not? The results are always surprising and only take a few days! It’s a good thing, of course.
Mr Ainsley, our dear friend, sold us this amazing striped board. We hope he opens a store and starts to make more boards. What a talented man!
What kid wouldn’t love to have their skateboard shelf? It’s been in our family for a while, and it’s nice to give it a home. Tomorrow, we’ll share the how-to!
We purchased some of the prints at Society 6. As I stated in the Inspiration post. We wanted to make the wall more personal, so we chose Liam’s artwork (shown at the top right). I also had him help me make the tryptic. This wall was a beautiful mix of old and new pieces. The wall tells his story from the time he was born until now.
I knew that I didn’t just want a white shelf for the shelving unit. I noticed a trend of white and wood in the room and immediately thought to purchase an Ikea shelf and then spruce it up with plywood that we stained and painted. I’ll share a more detailed DIY later!
This Mid-Century Dresser from Craigslist was worth $80. CHEAP! We refinished the piece with paint and stain because it only needed a little TLC. Sanding was the most difficult part of this project. The results are well worth the effort. The wallpaper was the only area where we spent more money. So glad we did. The only way I could visualize the graphic wall I wanted in our room was to see Sarah’s bedroom makeover. Her bedroom so inspired me! The organic graphic would have completed his room. I bought two rolls of the material from Abigal Edwards without thinking twice. She told me that this would be enough for my wall measurements. It wasn’t that expensive to purchase. Installing it was the most costly part. Installing wallpaper isn’t something I can do! If you call your local paint shop, and not Home Depot but a smaller one, they will have a list of handy people who can hang wallpaper within your budget. The cost of the wallpaper and the hanging help came to $400. It is a wonderful focal point for his room and adds a lot of depth. We love it!
This plant stand, made by Amanda’s husband-in-law, is absolutely gorgeous! It’s pretty awesome.
Liam is no longer a baby and will be the first one to tell you so. He is now my little son! I’ve seen him grow from a little boy in a New York closet to a blond-haired Californian with the most amazing room! You see, sweetheart, you weren’t going in the closet forever! Thank you for being a part of this journey. Please don’t be afraid to ask any questions. Tomorrow, we’ll be sharing some super-easy DIYs.
